2008 December > Remembrance Day
Men, women and children turned out in record numbers this year to honor our veterans on November 11th. At the cenotaph in Peterborough, we saw red poppies everywhere and watched as the crowd came together for the annual parade followed by the dedication ceremony in the park. Despite the sombre nature of the event, which included the laying of wreaths, prayers and two minutes of silence, we found that people still had warm smiles for us and each other. Even the very young participated in the ceremonies this year with school children attaching their poppy to wreaths displayed around the cenotaph. Following the formal ceremonies, we stopped by the Legion, the Navy Club and the RCAF where veterans, families and friends gathered to enjoy good food and music as they shared their personal stories of remembrance.
